Koleje Śląskie, short KŚ, is a Polish railway operator that primarily offers regional transport in the Silesian Voivodeship. It is one of five different companies that offers FIP in Poland.

On its website, KŚ provides a route map overview.

Summary

  • KŚ accepts FIP Coupons and FIP 50 Tickets.
  • Only 2nd class available on trains and no reservations possible.
  • Some special services are excluded from FIP.
  • Individual routes can also be used with PKP coupons.

Validity of FIP Tickets

FIP Coupon: ✅FIP Coupon for relatives: ⛔FIP 50 Tickets: ✅

FIP Coupons and FIP 50 Tickets are valid with KŚ.

For cross-border journeys, either a continuous FIP 50 Ticket or FIP Coupons from both operators in the two countries must be available. For journeys with different operators within Poland, either a continuous FIP 50 Ticket or FIP Coupons from both operators must be available.

Train Categories and Reservations

KŚ does not distinguish different train categories. Trains usually have a line number starting with “S”, which is often not provided in information systems (here it often just says “KŚ” followed by a train number). Only 2nd class tickets are offered, as there is no 1st class on KŚ trains. Additionally, no reservations are possible.

The website is theoretically available in Polish and English, however the connection information currently only works in Polish.

FIP 50 Tickets

On the Koleje Śląskie website, you can purchase tickets online with FIP 50 discount for KŚ journeys.

To do this, you must first select a connection and then specify “FIP (50%)” as the discount option when purchasing the ticket. The discount is only applied to standard fares (LINIOWY RELACJA). The fare type can be selected in the field next to the discount option. For other fares, a warning is displayed and the booking process checks which ticket is cheapest in the next step.

FIP 50 Tickets

On the Koleo website, tickets with FIP 50 discount can be purchased online for many railway companies in Poland. To do this, FIP 50 must be added once as a discount in the Koleo customer account here.

First, you must log into a Koleo account and then switch to settings via the gear icon in the top right.

Koleo My Account

Then under My Account / Moje konto at Discount / Zniżka, add the discount Międzynarodowa Karta Zniżek FIP (50%).

Koleo Discount

Subsequently, the discounted price is displayed directly in the connection search.

Important Information

It is recommended to check the price again in a non-logged-in state before purchasing to find out whether the FIP 50 price was actually calculated. With individual railway companies, there have been incorrect price calculations in the past without the FIP 50 discount.

FIP 50 Tickets

Deutsche Bahn employees can purchase FIP 50 Tickets online for journeys from Germany to neighboring countries. These tickets are available in the DB Reisemarkt > Bahnangebote > Ausland > FIP-Angebot. The FIP 50 ticket is only valid for the foreign section of the route. This is especially important for DB employees, as FIP 50 Tickets are not valid in your own home country. Therefore, an additional ticket is required for the domestic section within Germany up to the border point.

Booking is only possible via the link in the DB Reisemarkt. Discounts do not need to be selected; they are applied automatically.

Recommendations

Personal Tip

Similar to other regional railway companies in Poland that accept FIP, using FIP with KŚ is simple and convenient with few exceptions. The Polish metropolitan region around Katowice can thus be easily accessed via regional transport. Fans of the railway company can also obtain merchandise at the KŚ travel center at Katowice train station.
